While the media fixates on Maricopa County, Prescott just erupted into one of the biggest transparency fights in Arizona.
What started as a routine city council appointment has exploded into a major lawsuit over backroom deals, recusal games, and political maneuvering that handed a Democrat a key seat in a Republican stronghold.
Here’s what happened:
-GOP council members recused themselves from voting because of their party oaths.
-One abstained - and under the Prescott City Charter, that counted as a “yes” vote.
-The result? A Democrat, Patrick Grady, was appointed to the council in a process that’s now under legal fire.
-Attorney Ryan Heath has filed a lawsuit alleging Open Meeting Law violations, conflicts of interest, and manipulation of the process.
