Email from Rep. Salazar Reporting from Washington, D.C. FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 119, Issue #19 Dear Friends/Amigos, The government shutdown continues, creating uncertainty for many Miami families who rely on essential services and healthcare. I remain committed to making sure everyone in District 27 can access the support they need. That’s why I co-sponsored the Bipartisan Premium Tax Credit Extension Act (H.R. 5145) to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for another year, helping families keep their health coverage and peace of mind. I’ll keep fighting to reopen the government and focus on what matters most, affordable healthcare, lower housing costs, immigration reform, and protecting freedom at home and abroad. Despite the shutdown, my offices are open and ready to help with any federal issue. Some agencies may respond slower, but my team and I are still here, working every day for you and your family. Sincerely/Atentamente, María E. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) How am I doing as your congresswoman? Securing America’s Workforce: A Call for Bipartisan Immigration Reform This week, I joined the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) for a fireside chat on the Dignity Act and the urgent need to fix our broken immigration system. Business leaders from across the country shared how worker shortages and outdated policies are hurting their communities, while millions of families live in uncertainty. The following day, I joined ABIC at the U.S. Capitol to call for bipartisan action to modernize our immigration system and strengthen America’s workforce. Our nation faces a shortage of 1.7 million workers across key industries, the people who harvest our crops, build our homes, and care for our families. That’s why I’m leading the Dignity Act, a practical, bipartisan solution that secures our border, strengthens our workforce, and provides a path forward, without citizenship, for law-abiding immigrants. It’s time to act. Focusing on Ways to Strengthen Ties Across the Hemisphere I recently met with business leaders from Central America at a forum hosted by the HUGE (Honduras, USA, Guatemala, El Salvador) Business and Investment Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to deepening economic partnerships between the United States and the region. For lasting stability in our hemisphere and to help curb irregular immigration, Central America must reach its full economic potential. A stronger, more prosperous region will bring new opportunities and hope across the Americas. Advancing Real Solutions Through the Dignity Act I had the honor of joining the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Comité de 100, a national network of business leaders in industries like hospitality, agriculture, manufacturing, and finance, to discuss real solutions to our immigration crisis and advance the Dignity Act, a long-overdue effort to fix our broken system. As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Comité de 100 and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce launched the “Hispanics Make America Great” Month of Action, highlighting the community’s vital role in our economy and calling for bipartisan immigration reform to strengthen America’s workforce. The Comité de 100 is showing how Hispanics make America stronger, and why it’s time for action. In the Media: Tune in to Jackie Nespral this Sunday I sat down with Jackie Nespral to discuss the latest developments in Venezuela and Colombia, two nations at the heart of our hemisphere’s stability. We talked about the importance of defending democracy, confronting drug traffickers, and standing up to socialist regimes that threaten freedom across Latin America. Don’t miss my full interview this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on NBC 6, where I share my perspective on how the United States can lead with strength, support our allies, and ensure peace and prosperity in our region.
