Despite the mainstream media’s continued partisan spin to cover for their Democrat bedfellows in Congress, Americans are not fooled about who bears responsibility for the government shutdown. They know that Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times in a row to prevent the government from reopening. They know that House Democrats voted en masse against the clean, nonpartisan, non-controversial Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government. They know that Republicans are the ones who have voted, and are continuing to vote, to reopen the government. These are all indisputable facts.
But let’s focus on the motives of these Democrats – and why they’re so hellbent on keeping the government shut down. They do not care about the harm that this shutdown is causing in the short term – and they certainly do not care about the long term effects of adding $1.5 trillion to the national debt. First, Democrats are foaming at the mouth to get as much leverage as they can so that their hostage demands will be met. Second, they’re deathly afraid of enraging their own radical base by voting in favor of reopening the government. We can turn to their own words to illustrate these two points.
“There will be families that are going to suffer…but it is one of the few leverage times we have.”
– Representative Katherine Clark
“[if] we reopen the government and lose our leverage...”
– Senator Bernie Sanders
“That just gives the President more leverage [if we reopen the government].”
– Senator Martin Heinrich
In an October 20th article published by The Hill, one anonymous Democrat senator said that Democrats who vote in favor of reopening the government will get “hammered” by members of their own party. A second Democrat said that “We would have enough votes [to reopen the government] if people were not terrified of getting the guillotine.” So, there you have it – this entire Democrat-led government shutdown is predicated upon securing leverage for outrageous policies that Americans outright reject, and appeasing the Democrats’ own radical base out of fear. All the while, Democrats are using Americans as pawns in their own grotesque political game. It’s downright shameful.
New Scam Alert
It was recently revealed that Communist China is behind a massive scam campaign targeting countless Americans across the nation through fraudulent text messages. Specifically, these texts range from demanding payment for unpaid tolls, traffic violations, and unpaid fees that were imposed by the U.S. Postal Service. As I have discussed with you in the past, these fraudulent texts are used not only to manipulate recipients, but also to siphon away sensitive financial information. It has become so common, in fact, that Communist China, and criminal organizations within the country, have turned this operation into a billion-dollar business.

A Piece of American History
On November 15, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation – a framework that helped establish a national government of the United States following its split from Great Britain. These Articles established a very weak central government that consisted of just the legislative branch – the executive and judicial branches were entirely nonexistent. It’s important to note that this government’s own power was constrained in that it could not levy taxes, regulate interstate commerce, or forcibly move states to provide troops to the government or send it money. It was not until March 1, 1781, that the Articles of Confederation were officially ratified by the 13 colonial states. Immediately upon ratification, the first official government of the United States was officially established.
