Dear friends,

“Legacy media lies.” That’s what Elon Musk posted on his social network, X. As the third anniversary of his purchase of Twitter (now X) approaches, we have found that the entrepreneur has made more than 1,000 anti-media posts between September 2024 and September 2025 — nearly three attacks per day against journalists and news outlets.

His campaign on X is intended to discredit professional journalism Elon Musk’s strategy is clear: he seeks to undermine trust in the press and present X as the only alternative and indispensable source of information. He also wants to polarize public debate, turn every user into a content producer, and portray this as an equivalent to journalistic work. More than a third of the posts analysed by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) suggest that the media misinforms the public. In response, Elon Musk promotes X, his own platform, as an “antidote.”

This is not just about social media. It’s about safeguarding independent, fact-based journalism — a cornerstone of democracy. When trust in the press collapses, disinformation wins. You can help us to prevent that.

At RSF, we are deeply concerned, all the more so as X’s advertising revenue is growing again — a sign that his platform is here to stay. We’re taking action against this growing threat by documenting these attacks, exposing how this platform fuels hostility toward journalists, and urging governments to protect the public’s right to reliable information. But we can’t do it without your help.

Please donate today to defend free and independent journalism — wherever it is threatened, both on social media and on the ground.

Together, we can make sure that the truth is heard and that it is not manipulated by one billionaire.Thank you so much for your support,
