Since May, nearly 6,000 truck drivers have been pulled off American roads for failing basic English or identity checks. That’s what happens when every state plays by different rules. There’s no single standard to make sure the person behind the wheel of an 80,000-pound truck can read road signs or talk to police after a crash, and Americans are paying the price for it.
That’s why I introduced the SAFE Drivers Act—a national solution to a national problem:
- One uniform English test before any commercial license is issued
- Verified identity checks for every CDL applicant
- Federal penalties for states that refuse to comply
It’s simple. If you want to drive on American highways, you should be able to read and communicate in English.
It is an honor to serve you,
