American Muslims have every right to participate fully and safely in the nation’s political life

[WASHINGTON D.C., OCTOBER 24, 2025] — American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) strongly condemns the Islamophobic attacks made by Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and far-right agitator Laura Loomer against Muslim Americans who participated in Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) Annual Advocacy Days on Capitol Hill this week. Their remarks—using the term “Muslims” as an insult, mocking Muslims for praying, and attacking Muslims for exercising their First Amendment- represent an alarming assault on religious freedom and civic participation in the United States.

During AJP Action’s Annual Advocacy Days on Wednesday, Loomer spread false, Islamophobic claims attacking AJP Action and its participants. Shortly afterward, Senator Tuberville appeared on her podcast, amplifying her Islamophobic attacks after his staff reportedly saw AJP Action participants, some of whom were simply wearing Muslim garb, in the Senate. Their coordinated attacks sought to vilify pro-Palestinian Americans for simply exercising their constitutional rights.

What occurred was not a misunderstanding or a single hateful outburst. It was a deliberate attempt to portray Muslim Americans as outsiders and threats within their own country. By using racist and conspiratorial language to describe Muslim advocates peacefully meeting with their elected officials, Tuberville and Loomer sought to intimidate and silence a growing movement of Americans committed to justice in Palestine and equality at home.

AJP Action is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization affiliated with AMP, dedicated to advancing legislation that upholds the human rights of the Palestinian people.

“AJP Action’s Annual Advocacy Days is a peaceful, democratic event that brings hundreds of Americans and allies from across the nation to engage their government,” said Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid, Executive Director of American Muslims for Palestine. “To mock prayer, to criminalize worship, and to frame Muslim participation in democracy as suspicious is fundamentally un-American. This kind of rhetoric fuels hate crimes, discrimination, and division—and it must be condemned by all who care about the health of our democracy.”

AJP Action’s Annual Advocacy Days is a cornerstone of Muslim civic life in the United States. Participants meet with members of Congress to discuss issues of human rights, foreign policy, and justice for Palestinians. This engagement embodies the highest ideals of American democracy: peaceful advocacy, public service, and equality under the law.

By contrast, the rhetoric from Tuberville and Loomer reflects the growing normalization of anti-Muslim bigotry in political discourse. Islamophobia is not free speech—it is hate speech that endangers communities and erodes the democratic values it pretends to defend.

AMP calls on Senator Tuberville to retract his racist statements and release a formal apology. Additionally, we call on the Republican Party, all elected officials, civic leaders, and media outlets to unequivocally denounce the Islamophobic statements made by Senator Tuberville and Laura Loomer and to reaffirm that every American—Muslim or otherwise—has the right to participate fully and safely in the nation’s political life.

“Muslim Americans are part of the democratic fabric of this country,” Dr. Abu Irshaid added. “We are teachers, students, parents, and advocates who believe in justice and dignity for all. Attempts to shame or silence us will only strengthen our resolve to keep building a more just America.”

In solidarity,
