Senior Resource Biologist - Coastal and Marine Birds

*at the MDIFW Headquarters in Augusta*

This position is located within the Wildlife Division’s Wildlife Diversity Section. This position will serve as the Department’s species specialist on coastal and marine birds and will also address the Department’s involvement with proposed development in the Gulf of Maine. The position will focus on the conservation and management of birds and bats that utilize offshore habitats by investigating spatial and temporal patterns of use and assessing exposure and risk to inform environmentally responsible offshore wind energy development. Tasks include field studies and assessments for offshore birds and bats, research, stakeholder engagement and coordination, administering contracts, serving on Science and Technical Committees, advising the Environmental Review team on offshore energy issues, supporting related policy discussions, providing technical assistance to Department staff, other state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations and academia, writing technical reports and grant proposals, providing public outreach presentations, and representing the Department at state, regional, and national meetings.

The Aquatic Invasive Species Biologist position is based in the Augusta headquarters and serves as a member of the two-person Aquatic Invasive Species Program within the broader Fisheries Statewide Support Team. The biologist performs work on statewide invasive fish and aquatic wildlife threats and reports to the Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator.

Fish Culture Assistant Supervisor - Two Positions

*at the Palermo Fish Hatchery and Grand Lake Stream Hatchery*

This position supports the operation of one of eight fish culture facilities in the propagation and stocking of various sizes and species of fish to enhance recreational sport fisheries, as well as conserve and restore native fish. The position is responsible for supervision of on-station fish culturists and directing the implementation of all on-station work programs while ensuring all day-to-day operational necessities and actions happen in a timely and appropriate manner. The position provides professional and scientific work in assisting fisheries biological staff. The position is also responsible for overseeing fish culturist-led public educational and outreach events, ensuring program alignment with outreach goals established by the Division, and coordinating with the Department’s Information and Education Division.
