Partnerships That Work: Building Equitable Workforce Systems From The Ground Up
By Doug Mollett
Equitable workforce development isn’t just about job placement or vocational credentials. At its core, it’s about ensuring a person’s race, gender or zip code does not determine their financial stability by helping people access high-quality employment that provides long-term economic security. While funding streams and sector strategies matter, we have to stay focused on the real people at the heart of our work. [Read more]
Power Through Partnership: The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development’s 25-Year Journey
By Aba Hammond
Twenty-five years ago, the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (i.e., the Coalition) was born from a simple realization that local advocacy organizations were weakening their impact by not working collaboratively. By Yizhu Wang and Emily Flitter, Bloomberg
Jesse Van Tol, president of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, a nonprofit that pressures banks to do more business in underserved communities, often by fighting bank mergers, praised Fifth Third’s CEO. “Tim Spence has an interest in financial inclusion that is uncommon for a bank CEO,” Van Tol said in an interview. “I would hope that the bank brings that perspective strongly to bear on how they run the Direct Express program.” [Read more ([link removed] ) ]

By Dedrick Asante-Muhammad and Eric Morrissette, Word in Black
The Trump administration’s decision to eliminate the entire staff of the Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund is more than bureaucratic reshuffling — it’s an assault on one of the most effective and bipartisan vehicles for community investment in America. With a single order, the administration has frozen 11 programs that deliver lifelines to small businesses, working families, and neighborhoods across the nation. [Read more ([link removed] ) ]
