Ready for Bonfire Night celebrations like you've never seen before?

Get ready for a brand-new event to celebrate Bonfire Night, coming to the town centre on Saturday 1 November, 5.30pm to 9pm.

This fiery new addition to our autumn and winter line up includes both Halloween and Bonfire Night creations in front of the Old Town Hall at Parliament Square.

We will welcome Emergency Exit Arts and Lightfires’s Frank & McStein’s Monster Laboratory show 'Out of the Lab, Into the Fire'.

Guided by Frank and McStein’s eminent colleagues and their team of Igors, audiences will work their way through six fire-powered and interactive stations, earning power-up tokens and feeding them into the Monster-O-Meter.

At this free evening of fiery installations and mesmerising fire dancers, you can wander between stunning flame-filled displays, watch artists paint the night sky with sparks, and enjoy thrilling performances that will bring heat, light and drama to the heart of the Oldham. See you there!

Something spooky is creeping into Spindles

Join in the fun with the Kids Club tomorrow (Saturday 25 October) from 12 to 4pm.

Enjoy face painting outside The Perfume Shop, crafts near Subway and retro arcade games opposite Next. Plus, our Halloween Trail returns.

Find the hidden Halloween items in shop windows, around town until Sunday 2 November for your chance to win an Oldham Gift Card.

Drop your entry form in the box near Next or in Tommyfield Market and the lucky winner will be revealed on Tuesday 4 November.

You don’t have to run to join the fun — cheer, eat, and shop local

Hundreds of runners will be lacing up their trainers for the Oldham Halloween Half at 9.30am on Sunday, taking on one of the toughest half marathons in the country.

The route starts and finishes in Oldham town centre, showcasing some of the borough’s most stunning scenery along the way.

Spectators are encouraged to line the streets, cheer on the runners, and soak up the fantastic atmosphere.

And why not make a day of it? After the race enjoy a bite to eat, grab a coffee, or do a bit of shopping at one of Oldham’s many brilliant local businesses.

It’s the perfect way to celebrate community spirit and support the town.

Market on the move: Excitement builds as new market takes shape

Oldham Council Leader, Cllr Arooj Shah, recently joined some of our hard-working traders at the new market space, seeing the amazing progress as they get ready to move next year.

They’re busy fitting out their stalls to get everything just right for the grand opening in 2026.

The market is really starting to take shape, and traders can’t wait to move in.

The market is a big part of our wider plans to regenerate Oldham town centre, creating a lively, welcoming place for everyone to enjoy, and helping our local businesses to grow and succeed.

In the meantime, the current market is open throughout Christmas, with plenty on offer for a bit of Christmas shopping, or a bite to eat.

Steel signing marks major milestone at Northern Roots

Oldham Council Leader, Cllr Arooj Shah, also joined dignitaries, the charity Northern Roots and partners to sign a key structural steel beam on the new Forestry Skills Centre at the Northern Roots site next to Alexandra Park.

The Forestry Skills Centre, which is being built alongside a new Visitor Centre, will help residents gain valuable qualifications in sustainable industries, including landscape management and crop growing. Residents will also be able to enjoy the café and shop on site selling fresh, organic produce grown on the neighbouring Urban Farm.

These landmark facilities are a key part of the transformational Northern Roots project, which will see 160 acres of green space in the heart of Oldham developed into the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park.

Delivered by Oldham Council with £12.9 million support from the Local Regeneration Fund Funded by Central Government, and led by construction partners Willmott Dixon, the build is already providing employment and training opportunities for local people.
