Familias Reunidas Bond Program
Meet Alejandro:
Some very beautiful news: After six long months in detention, Alejandro is finally home! Originally from Mexico, Alejandro came to the U.S. with his mother in 2001, when he was just a child. Before being detained by ICE, he lived with his partner and their two children, one only four years old, and was on his way to work early one morning when he was taken into custody.

Alejandro’s family, with limited financial resources, did everything they could to bring him home. Thanks to our collaboration with the National Bail Fund Network, we were able to cover his $15,000 bond — one of the highest we’ve seen — and help reunite him with his loved ones. He is also our first Familias Reunidas bond recipient from Farmville Detention Center.

This reunion reflects the enduring love of a mother determined to bring her son home and the deep heartbreak caused by family separation. Each bond we post brings families one step closer to healing and justice after detention.

Day Laborer Outreach
A Labor of Love

This past month, our team visited two sites alongside seven dedicated volunteers, including Christina and Daniel from the American Red Cross. Together, we distributed essential items such as water, Gatorade, oranges, deodorant, body wipes, socks, and hygiene kits. We also provided work gear, including safety goggles, vests, ear protection, face masks, and caps. Resources that are vital for laborers’ safety and dignity on the job.

A special thank you to Leticia and Joey for preparing home-cooked Haitian meals, a heartfelt treat that brought warmth and comfort to many.

This outreach also focused on education and connection. Christina and Daniel shared information on the American Red Cross Restoring Family Links program, which helps reconnect families separated by conflict, disaster, or migration.

Through our continued visits and the distribution of Know Your Rights cards in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole, we aim to empower, inform, and stand in solidarity with our day laborer community. Thank you to every volunteer who showed up with compassion and curiosity, your presence helps us humanize and uplift our immigrant community every step of the way.

Water Drop
In collaboration with Borderlands Relief Collective

This month’s Water Drop was an incredible effort of compassion and teamwork! Together with our partners at BRC, we carried out a joint drop with two groups covering different desert routes and hiked more than 7.5 miles under the sun. Along the way, we placed over 100 waters, Gatorades, and more than 200 cans to support those making the dangerous journey through the borderlands.

We are deeply grateful to the 25+ volunteers who joined us, carrying heavy packs, braving the heat, and showing what solidarity looks like in action. Every drop makes a difference. Every bottle, every can, and every step helps save lives.

Thank you for standing with us in this life-saving work

Collaborations and Past Events
Thank You, Arizona State University and Dr. David Martínez
We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Arizona State University and Dr. David Martínez, Professor of American Indian and Transborder Studies and Director of the Institute for Transborder Indigenous Nations (ITIN), for inviting us to share about our work at Border Angels. ITIN’s commitment to advocating for Indigenous peoples directly impacted by the U.S.–Mexico border deeply aligns with our mission of compassion and justice for all migrant communities.

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Osvaldo, an ASU alumnus, had the honor of presenting on our Water Drop Program and Caravan of Love, highlighting the collective efforts that continue to bring hope and humanity to the border region.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with such an inspiring community of scholars and advocates who are building bridges across borders every day.
Thank You, Reunify Yoga
A huge thank-you to Reunify Yoga for hosting a beautiful class and fundraiser in support of Border Angels! Your community’s generosity and spirit of unity truly embody the compassion that drives our mission.

We’re so grateful to everyone who came together on the mat to raise awareness and funds for our work at the border. Your support helps us continue providing humanitarian aid and advocating for justice and dignity for all migrants.
September Book Club Recap
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us both in person and virtually for our September Book Club! This past month, we read and discussed Borderlands/La Frontera by Gloria E. Anzaldúa, a powerful exploration of identity, culture, and life in the borderlands.

We were deeply honored to welcome our special guest Dr. Irene Lara, a Chicana scholar, writer, teacher, and spiritual activist, whose insights brought even more depth and meaning to our conversation.

Thank you for helping us create such a warm, thoughtful, and inspiring space for community and reflection. Sign up for our next book club in our "Upcoming Events" section below.

Every other month, we come together to read and reflect on books that explore life in the borderlands. Our goal is to build community, deepen understanding, and have honest conversations about immigration and the realities that shape our shared history.

This month, we’re reading The Land of Open Graves by Jason De León — a powerful look at the human stories behind border policies.

Tokens for Bags at Buffalo Exchange

We are happy to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of the Buffalo Exchange Tokens for Bags® program from July through December 2025. You can now donate to Border Angels just by shopping at Buffalo Exchange in San Diego.

Instead of a plastic bag, the Tokens for Bags® program offers shoppers a 5 cent token to donate to one of three local charities with each purchase. The program has generated over $982,840 for hundreds of local nonprofit organizations since 1994 and has kept over 19.65 million plastic bags from the landfill. Stop in to shop and drop us a token!
