Impact of the Government Shutdown on Our Servicemembers

Dear Texans,

As you may know, a federal government shutdown began on October 1st after funding for the new fiscal year expired. Despite my vote to keep the government open, Senate Democrats continue to block a clean Continuing Resolution. This lapse in funding has direct consequences for the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform and the families who stand behind them.

Our service members continue to defend America every day, without pay, during this shutdown. Training operations, base services, and family support programs have been disrupted, and thousands of civilian defense employees have been furloughed. Political gridlock should never come at the expense of those who protect our freedom.

I want to hear directly from you:

Do you believe the Government Shutdown is harming our Troops and Military Readiness?

Each day this shutdown continues, our servicemembers and their families bear unnecessary hardship. America must never allow politics to stand in the way of national defense. I’ll continue fighting to ensure our troops are paid, our bases are supported, and our military remains ready to defend the nation.

Sincerely,

Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25)
Chairman, House Committee on Small Business
