Improved In The Third Quarter, But Republicans Still Have More Money
According to Politico, Democrats in competitive races like Derek Tran in
California’s 45th congressional district and Eugene Vindman in Virginia’s
7th congressional district—both of whom Swing Left is supporting—are
reporting strong fundraising numbers from the last quarter.
That’s especially encouraging news in swing districts like these, where
every dollar matters. And it shows that grassroots supporters are keeping
Democrats competitive against Republicans, who started this year with
major cash advantages.
But Politico also reports that Republicans like Mike Lawler in New York’s
17th district and Derrick Van Orden in Wisconsin’s 3rd district (both of
whom represent swing districts Swing Left is working to flip) are also
pulling in massive sums and are sitting on sizable war chests. Plus,
“Republicans largely maintained a cash on hand advantage over Democrats,
thanks to funds built up in the first half of the year.” Republicans can
use that head start to flood the airwaves and define their races early.
If we’re going to continue building the momentum we need to defeat
Republicans and flip the House in next year’s midterms, it’s critical that
we make sure Democrats have the resources they need to hit the ground
running.
