The State of Climate Action in 2025: 10 Key Findings ( [link removed] )
****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

A new report, the State of Climate Action 2025 ( [link removed] ) , brings sobering findings: Not one indicator of global climate progress is currently on track to hold temperature rise to 1.5 degrees C. This may not be surprising; action toward this target has been lagging for a decade. But with temperatures soaring to new highs and disasters like fires and floods rapidly intensifying, the urgency to correct course has never been clearer.

Yet it isn’t all bad news. The report also highlights changes that were unimaginable 10 years ago, like EVs surpassing one-fifth of all car sales. It underscores that rapid transformation is indeed possible with the right mixture of support. And it lays out what we must do to keep a safer future within reach.

1.5 Degrees C: Understanding World's Critical Warming Threshold ( [link removed] ) ( [link removed] )
******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

The 1.5 degree C temperature threshold set under the Paris Agreement in 2015 remains the world's most critical benchmark for climate action. But why was this limit chosen? Just how close is the world to surpassing it? And what would it mean if we did?

How to Cut Carbon from International Shipping ( [link removed] ) ( [link removed] )
***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

On Oct. 17, the UN body in charge of international shipping delayed a decision ( [link removed] ) to start taxing the industry’s emissions amid pressures from the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. While the carbon tax is off the table for now, countries and companies can still focus on new technologies and low-carbon fuels that are crucial for cutting climate pollution in the long-term.

*European Commission Protects EUDR’s Core Principles ( [link removed] )*

Stientje van Veldhoven, WRI ( [link removed] )

On Oct. 21, the European Commission put forward a formal proposal to simplify the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) ( [link removed] ) , which could prevent delays in implementing the important legislation — designed to help protect forests globally from commodity-driven deforestation.

“With this proposal, the Commission is creating a workaround to allow compliance with the EUDR to begin at the end of December 2025. While no tampering would have been preferable, this approach is far better than delaying enforcement another year or gutting the regulation, as some have called for.”
