There are few bigger enemies of knowledge, learning, tolerance, and understanding than Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and he just escalated his war on education by declaring a witch-hunt against professors for their beliefs.
A University of Texas professor was just fired from his job over “ideological differences,” and Abbott took to Twitter to gloat. “Texas is targeting professors who are more focused on pushing leftist ideologies rather than preparing students to lead our nation. We must end indoctrination and return to education fundamentals at all levels of education!” crowed the right-wing extremist.
He, of course, actually intends to install right-wing indoctrination at every level of learning. While he unleashes a purge of college professors, he and his cronies in the Texas legislature have been working for years to dismantle the public schooling system and install for-profit MAGA indoctrination schools to create a new generation of Trump zealots — and make themselves rich, of course.
Gina Hinojosa was just an ordinary Texas mom focused on her family — until Republicans tried to close her son’s public school. Gina wouldn’t stand for it, and went to bat for her son’s right to a good education. She became president of the school board, saved her son’s school, and then took her fight to the state legislature. Her education-first platform proved very popular; she outright won a 7-way primary and got elected to the state House, where she led the House Democrats’ successful and historic effort to direct more public money into schools.
Gina’s fight goes so much deeper than just a governor’s race. An entire generation of Texas children is at risk of growing up subject to MAGA brainwashing, taught false versions of history and instilled with the pernicious tenets of white supremacy.
