We’re now in the fourth week of the government shutdown, and the consequences are hitting New Jersey hard.

We recently learned that SNAP benefits could be delayed in November if the shutdown continues. It’s unclear if benefits already loaded onto Families First EBT cards will still be accessible next month.

This is devastating to the more than 800,000 New Jerseyans who rely on SNAP each month. Families that are already struggling could face real uncertainty about whether they can put food on the table. It is completely unacceptable.

Extremists in Congress are playing games with people’s lives. Republicans are refusing to negotiate and holding the government hostage while New Jersey pays the price for their political chaos.

I’m working every day to find a solution that avoids this crisis and reopens the government with a fair budget. Meanwhile, Republicans are on vacation. They are still refusing to show up and do their jobs. We cannot let them stay in power.

I know this is a difficult time for so many of us, but the stakes here are too high for us to fall behind. The path to the House majority runs through NJ-03, and we cannot allow Republicans to keep control of Congress and continue to wreak havoc on working families.
