Earlier this week, Abbott announced that he is directing DPS and other state agencies to arrest unhoused people in Austin who are living in encampments and to throw away their possessions.
The state’s operation in Austin does NOT solve homelessness. It’s a political stunt designed to punish people for being poor, and it makes our entire community less safe.
Meanwhile, the real work—helping people get shelter, get care, and rebuild their lives—is being done by local organizers, city workers, and neighbors. By people who actually care.
