The Democrats are patting themselves on the back for a historic achievement – the 2nd longest government shutdown in American history, hurting families, seniors, Veterans, and small businesses across our nation.

Look, I’m just as frustrated as you. My colleagues and I are ready to negotiate in good faith with the other side of the aisle, just as I have done my entire career. I’m proud to be recognized as one of the most effective members of Congress for my willingness to work with either party. But this is beyond the pale.

The Democrats are holding this nation hostage over a fiscally untenable, COVID-era spending provision that expands health care for illegal immigrants. Is that worth one of the longest shutdowns in history?

The answer is NO. That’s why House Republicans and I are fighting to restore fiscal sanity, reopen our government responsibly, and make sure this NEVER happens again.
