Rising Tide Partners, a nonprofit developer, acquired 93 properties in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood last year from a bankrupt investment company, with long-term plans to renovate or replace buildings and stabilize a community ([link removed]) thathttp://publicsource.org/homewood-redevelopment-efforts-rising-tide-partnerslost around 16% of its population in a decade.
The plan has come up against tenants who don’t want to leave and a community organization that would prefer an “Afrocentric paradigm” approach to redevelopment, rather than efforts led by a white-led group from outside the neighborhood.
But Kendall Pelling, Rising Tide’s executive director, said the group is “just getting blighted, dysfunctional properties under control ([link removed]) …”
