More than half of Canadians now support new oil pipelines. Here’s why that’s terrifying.

Did you know that more than half of Canadians, including 56% of British Columbians, now say they support building a new oil pipeline from Alberta to the BC coast?

It’s shocking, but not surprising.

With fear over Trump’s tariffs and talk about “economic self-reliance” dominating the news, the fossil fuel industry saw an opportunity and took it. They twisted national pride into support for projects that serve their profits, not Canada’s future.

And when Mark Carney said Canada could become an “energy superpower,” they quickly defined that as more pipelines, more drilling, and more public money for private gain.

What’s really scary is that another pipeline isn’t just an environmental disaster, it’s an economic trap. Remember how the cost of Trans Mountain exploded from $5.4 billion to over $38 billion? A massive bill paid for by Canadian taxpayers.

Every dollar poured into new pipelines delays our transition away from fossil fuels and locks us deeper into dependence on a dying industry.
