Amplifying Women's Voices
Fawcett is delighted that Greater Manchester Combined Authority are recruiting for their Women & Girls Equality Panel, which will work closely with the Mayor and Combined Authority to create a clear vision for women and girls in the region. We have been calling for Combined Authorities to create panels like this so that women can use their experiences and voices to help steer and scrutinise policy making. We hope to see more Combined Authorities take this approach.

Build Back Better: Levelling the playing field for women in the regions
What else can be done in the regions to better include women in the national debate? How can we encourage policymakers to act now to level up?

For our next #CoronaConversations event we are joining with West Midlands Women's Voice to feature exclusive data on the experiences of women in the West Midlands and Greater Manchester. Our incredible line-up of panellists will explore what should come next as we 'build back better.'

Following the Chancellor's summer budget statement, Sam Smethers has responded in the Telegraph that the lack of childcare investment will undermine the economic recovery. Just last week Fawcett sent a letter to the Chancellor calling for urgent support for childcare providers, to ensure that childcare is available when parents are able to go back to work (read the full letter). The sector is in dire straits - 25% of providers could go out of business.

Meanwhile, we asked our Coronavirus Diarists to share their reflections on whether inequality and division in the UK will increase or decrease as a result of the coronavirus crisis. We also asked what they would say if they had five minutes with the Prime Minister.

Esua's memoir, The Space Between Black and White, explores her inner journey growing up mixed-race in Britain and exposes the isolation and ambiguities that often come with being ‘an only.’

Equal Power
There is still time to join our Equal Power workshop, Exploring Your Political Pathway for BAME Women, on 20 July. In this session The Parliament Project will help you explore ways to become more politically active and demystify the process of standing to be an MP or councillor.
