Neghat [ [link removed] ]
A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan

This week, we launched our budget consultation at Executive Board and we want to hear your views on our proposals. Whether you live, work, study or run a business in Nottingham we want to hear about what matters most to you.

The Council is on track to balance its budget next year without Exceptional Financial Support from Government, which is a clear sign that we are now a financially stable authority.

Next year’s proposals include a £15 million investment package for frontline services, including £4.5 million for local neighbourhood improvements, and £11 million in efficiency savings – not the severe cuts we have had to make in previous years.

Your views will help shape the 2026/27 budget and the Council’s priorities for the year ahead. This is your chance to influence how we deliver services, invest in neighbourhoods, and make sure every pound we spend work for Nottingham.

Find out more below and have your say.

What should Nottingham’s spending priorities be?

We want to hear from you about the issues that matter most to you and where the Council should focus its spending in the year ahead.

Following this weeks' Executive Board meeting (21 October), we’ve launched A Future Council Conversation - inviting residents, partners and businesses to have their say on our 2026/27 budget proposals.

This builds on the progress we’ve made to become financially stable with debt reduced, overspends falling and a plan for a fully balanced budget next year.

New community bike library launches to encourage 300 people into active travel

A new community bike library has opened at Harvey Hadden Sports Village as part of the Travel Well project.

The bike library is being delivered on behalf of Nottingham City Council by RideWise, a local sustainable transport charity, with project monitoring support from the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly known as Sustrans).

The Travel Well community bike library service provides free bike loans of between four and 12 weeks on a range of accessible e-bikes, e-trikes, and adapted bikes to support residents who cannot currently cycle due to health reasons such as injury, mobility needs, or long-term health conditions.

Council to receive £5m funding to improve recycling
Council to receive £5m funding to improve recycling

Nottingham is set to receive a Government grant of £5.025 million which will be used to expand citywide recycling collection and disposal, enabling improvements to meet upcoming collection and packaging reforms.

The ringfenced funding, which was formally accepted at the Council’s Executive Board on 21 October, comes from the Government’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging initiative, where producers must pay a fee for the packaging they supply or import into the UK market.

Specific plans to expand recycling access include:

*
* Purchasing three new Recycling Collection Vehicles
* Recruiting more frontline staff including 9 loaders and 4 drivers
* Targeted communications (letters, leaflets, and digital updates) explaining the new services, their benefits, and how residents can participate.
