[Surfers Against Sewage logo <[link removed]>] Rising temperature, rising acidity, rising sea levels. The ocean is on fire. And the oil and plastic giants are to blame, John. But this isn’t where the story ends — it’s where the real fight begins. We are [The People vs Plastic <[link removed]>] — and together, we can turn the tide. ✊ This month, we’re diving into what’s really happening in the world of plastic right now — from what’s HOT (taking action against plastic) to what’s NOT (industry greenwash and never-ending global policy battles). Check it out below! 👇 🔥What's HOT🔥 [SAS at Rosebank protest <[link removed]>] Say no to Rosebank ❌ The UK Government has another chance to approve or reject Rosebank, the largest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea. But here’s the truth: 🛢️ 1 in 10 barrels of oil end up as plastic. 🌡️ Rosebank is not just a climate disaster — it’s a plastic one too. Every new oil field means more single-use waste, more pollution, and more plastic choking our shores. The ocean is already a dumping ground — we can’t let it get worse. Join us in saying NO to Rosebank and YES to a cleaner future. ⬇️ [Add your voice <[link removed]>] [Million Mile Scream <[link removed]>] Join the Million Mile Scream 👻 Two weekends, Halloween, prizes to be won, and a whole lot of spooky fun. [Plastic Free Business <[link removed]>] Become a Plastic Free Champion 🏆 Through our Plastic Free Champion Award, local businesses are doing what the big brands won’t: taking real action for our planet. We help independent businesses cut pointless plastic, so they can protect the places they love and wear their award with pride. Know a business ready to make a stand? It’s free to join, packed with support — and it all starts by removing just three single-use plastic items. 👇 [Find out more <[link removed]>] 👎What's NOT👎 [Plastic Treaty <[link removed]>] The Global Plastics Treaty failed. What now? It's no secret that the fossil fuel lobby sabotaged the Global Plastics Treaty. 😡 With the process now in limbo, the UN chair is stepping down and no new plans have been confirmed. But there’s still hope. The UN’s environment chief insists a strong treaty remains achievable, and many countries are reaffirming their commitment to keep negotiations alive. The High Ambition Coalition — a group of nations, scientists and campaigners — is gearing up to push harder for real, life-cycle rules on plastic. Even if a global deal takes time, progress can still happen through regional agreements and existing frameworks like the Basel Convention. Momentum remains — and together, we can make sure world leaders stay accountable. [Read reflections on the Treaty <[link removed]>] [Coke bottle in sand <[link removed]>] The Big Plastics Lobby continues…🥤 Just as we've seen at the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, the Big Plastics Lobby strikes again. A recent report has revealed that over 100 corporates lobbied to block the New York Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act. Coca-Cola, McDonalds, ExxonMobil, Dow, Shell and others were hell-bent on defending the status quo — in other words, fueling the ocean-clogging, environmental-wreaking, health-destroying plastic crisis we're in. [See the report <[link removed]>] [Surfer standing on beach <[link removed]>] We're still waiting…⌛ The UK’s Circular Economy Roadmap is meant to shake up how we use materials — and plastics are front and centre. The CES Taskforce has flagged six high-impact sectors, each getting a tailored plan to cut waste and rethink how we produce and use stuff. This is our chance to push the government for real, systemic change on plastic — to stay ambitious even while there’s no global plastics treaty in sight. 👀 Watch this space… we’re still waiting for it to drop!
