John, we wanted to take a moment to explain why the National Popular Vote is so beneficial for Colorado.
So we’re sharing this Letter to the Editor printed in the Greeley Tribune that breaks down exactly why Coloradans should vote YES on the National Popular Vote.
Take a moment to read the piece below, then chip in any amount so we can build a winning campaign to pass the National Popular Vote in Colorado:

National Popular Vote a benefit to all
Jennifer Parenti

It’s time to set the record straight: the National Popular Vote is good for Colorado.

I’ve run the numbers. Whether you’re a rural Republican, big-city Democrat or small-town independent, like me, the National Popular Vote will make your vote more relevant and more powerful in national elections.

Through the NPV, Colorado will gain political power as a state because our inclusive voting laws allow more of us to vote per capita than nearly anywhere else in the country — indeed, we would jump up at least two places in terms of overall state influence in the Electoral College.

Critics will tell you the Electoral College is the only way to protect rural voices. This is demonstrably false. Across the country only two states remain where rural voices outnumber urban/suburban ones: Maine and Vermont.

The hard truth is that our communities on the Western Slope and Eastern Plains are never going to outnumber the votes along Colorado’s Front Range. Our statewide winner-takes-all system hasn’t protected rural voices — it subjugated them to the will of our more populous counties and all but ensured that they will never be relevant in Colorado presidential elections again.

The only way to ensure that every voice in the country and in our state matters is through the National Popular Vote. It will elevate Colorado’s rural, conservative and independent voices and allow them to band together across state lines to become an effective coalition. And not just here — the NPV compact will re-enfranchise millions of voters across the country who right now feel their votes don’t matter because they represent a minority within their own state.

I’m talking about millions of conservative voters in California, minority voters in the South and independents like me across the country, who have seen that the two-party, winner-takes-all system has failed to produce candidates who are responsive to their constituents.

I would urge all Coloradans to vote ‘Yes’ on the National Popular Vote compact in November. It’s good for democracy and it’s good for Colorado.

Thanks for reading! We hope you learned a bit more about why the National Popular Vote is so good for Colorado, and why we’re fighting to make it a reality.
