Here’s what I had to say when I was asked about endorsing Hakeem Jeffries.

Justice Democrats

John, I’m fed up with politicians that stand for nothing while our democracy crumbles. And I know I’m not alone — many Angelenos feel this way.

The Trump administration is waging a relentless war on our communities. ICE raids are terrorizing families, shuttering small businesses, and leaving our neighbors too afraid to step outside.

And what are Democratic leaders like Hakeem Jeffries doing? Tweets, press conferences, and strongly-worded statements.

While working people suffer, party elites are throwing their hands up. They would rather protect their own power instead of fighting for ours.

We deserve better.

That’s why I’m running for Congress: because I believe in a Democratic Party led by the people, not by billionaires, corporations, or career politicians.

When I’m in Congress, I cannot support Hakeem Jeffries as the leader of this Party, because I believe in leadership that answers to communities, not corporations.

And I’m not alone: the vast majority of candidates for Congress running in Dem primaries nationwide feel this way. And that’s why I told Axios this week, we should welcome new leadership in the Democratic Party.

Scoop: Dozens of Dem candidates won’t commit to backing Jeffries

The truth is, our party is at a crossroads and everyone knows it.

The Democratic party can continue to let billionaires and out-of-touch politicians call the shots, ignoring the pain of working people, or it can choose a new generation of leaders ready to take on greed, corruption, and oligarchy.

I’m choosing the people. Always.
