Team,
Ahead of the Supreme Court’s oral arguments last week on the Voting Rights Act, we released a report with Black Voters Matter Fund (see below) that explains how this case could cement one-party rule in the U.S House.
Our report helps shape how the American people see the stakes of this case, with widespread media coverage including:
POLITICO: “Republicans could draw 19 more House seats after an upcoming Supreme Court ruling”
“Two voting rights groups are sounding the alarm…That calculation, made in a new report from Fair Fight Action and Black Voters Matter Fund shared exclusively with POLITICO, would all but guarantee Republican control of Congress.”
Now, we have an even clearer picture of what we’re up against: During oral arguments last week, the Court’s far-right majority indicated that they may in fact rule to weaken the Voting Rights Act.
So we’re mobilizing members of our movement to show just how much voters would disagree with this potential ruling. And we’ve got to be ready to organize state-by-state for fair elections with fair maps if the Supreme Court unlocks a new wave of gerrymandering.
As we set our plans, we’re relying on donations to help fuel our efforts. Will you make a donation of $30 or any amount to help protect democracy from the far right’s threats, and help prepare for the damage the Supreme Court may be about to inflict? [[link removed]]
Thank you for helping to make this work possible.

Subject: [New Report] A Supreme Court case that could rig control of the U.S. House
In one week, the Supreme Court will re-hear a case where they could strike down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and remove protections against discriminatory redistricting maps, which could lock in one-party rule of the U.S. House of Representatives.
According to a new joint report penned by my organization, Black Voters Matter, and Fair Fight Action, taking away this section of the Voting Rights Act would open the floodgates to discriminatory mapmaking, particularly in the South, effectively gutting the political power of Black voters and other voters of color.
Our analysis shows that this could lock in an estimated 27 additional safe U.S. House seats for the GOP, with at least 19 in the South directly tied to striking down Section 2. Combined with Republicans’ mid-decade gerrymandering scheme in states like Texas and Missouri, a ruling against Section 2 could allow them to cement one-party control of the U.S. House for at least a generation.
It’s all part of the MAGA operation’s strategy to create a new “Solid South.”
Black Voters Matter and Fair Fight Action are meeting this massive voter suppression attempt by organizing the strongest pro-voting backlash of Black voters and allies’ power we’ve ever seen. We’re supporting local leaders in key states, growing our grassroots networks, and demanding that the Supreme Court and Congress protect our maps from discriminatory redistricting ahead of the 2026 midterm elections and beyond.
As someone born and raised in the South, this hits home for me. But this fight for the Voting Rights Act affects voters everywhere. Will you split a donation between Fair Fight Action and Black Voters Matter to help mount an effective fight against the MAGA movement’s anti-democracy strategy? [[link removed]]

The Voting Rights Act has been one of the most successful pieces of legislation in our country’s history. End of sentence. When it was passed, it had an immediate impact on increasing Black voter registration rates and protected Black voters’ access to the ballot.
And by prohibiting lawmakers of any party from adopting redistricting maps that have racially discriminatory effects, Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act works to fulfill the guarantee of the 14th and 15th Amendments that minority voters must have equal voting rights. A decision against Section 2 would be a huge loss for both Black Voters Matter and Fair Fight Action in our work to protect our freedom to vote.
We can’t allow MAGA to eviscerate the voting power of communities of color – fair representation is a critical piece of our democracy’s foundation. The window for action is closing rapidly, and the consequences of inaction are generational.

And thank you for every action you’ve taken in solidarity with Fair Fight Action. At make-or-break moments like these, we must be able to lean on each other, and I’m grateful to be on this team with you.
