As we enter the third week of the longest full government shutdown in American history, Republicans have proven once again: they'll never stop putting politics before people.
Congressional Republicans shut down the government because they refuse to extend critical health care tax cuts, the Republican-led U.S. House hasn't held a vote in over a month, and more than 750,000 federal workers are going without pay. This is not normal — and it didn't have to be this way.
House Republicans are refusing to work with Democrats to strike a fair deal. Instead of working across the aisle to keep the government open, protect our health care, and deliver for the American people, they chose chaos.
This shutdown is already hurting communities across the country. Federal workers are missing paychecks, small businesses that depend on government contracts are hanging on by a thread, and critical programs are grinding to a halt. Meanwhile, Trump spends his weekends golfing and is showing no interest in fixing the mess his cronies helped create.
But here's the good news: Democratic pro-choice women are showing us what real leadership looks like. From fighting to protect our health care to standing up to dangerous disinformation, EMILYs List women are doing the work Republicans refuse to do. The only way we'll restore sanity in Washington is by flipping the House – and that means electing more Democratic pro-choice women in 2026.
