John,
Let’s break down what just happened in North Carolina, and why it matters far beyond one state.
Today, North Carolina lawmakers approved a new election map, which reshapes congressional districts in ways that could alter the balance of power in Congress.
When We All Vote is working every day to make sure voters in states like North Carolina know their rights, understand their districts, and turn out in every election. But we can’t do this without you. Will you donate $5, $10, $25, or whatever you can to help voters make their voices heard?
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
The White House has been pressuring states to redraw their congressional maps to help Republicans gain several new seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 elections. Texas and Missouri have both answered this call, passing new maps that split Black and Brown communities into different districts to weaken the power of their votes. And North Carolina just joined them. This is called gerrymandering. Voters should choose their elected officials — not the other way around.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
If the courts uphold all of these new maps, they will go into effect for the 2026 midterm elections. It overwhelmingly impacts Black and Brown voters and weakens their ability to have equal representation.
What’s happening in North Carolina and across the country isn’t just about lines on a map. It’s about whose voices are heard and whose votes count equally. Every unfair map and every attempt to silence voters is another reminder of why showing up matters. Help us reach voters in North Carolina by chipping in TODAY!
