Wyoming Governor’s Office Encourages “Cowboys and Coal” Friday
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Oct. 20, 2025 - This Friday, Oct. 24, Governor Gordon encourages all state employees to show their Wyoming pride by celebrating the upcoming Wyoming Cowboys’ “Cowboys and Coal” football game, taking place in Laramie, Saturday, Oct. 25, honoring our state’s proud coal heritage.
“Coal has long been the backbone of Wyoming’s economy, fueling our communities, building our schools, our families, and our way of life,” Governor Gordon said. “And just like coal, Cowboy football has been a source of pride and strength for generations of Wyomingites. These are two great loves of Wyoming coming together, and we want to celebrate.”
To join in solidarity with the Pokes, staff was encouraged, through a memo, to wear University of Wyoming brown and gold gear to work on Friday, Oct. 24. They were also welcomed to add “eye black” (the stripes players wear under their eyes) to show their support for coal’s heritage in Wyoming.
Everyone is encouraged to celebrate, take group photos dressed in UW gear and share them on social media, tagging @uwyo_football and using #CowboysandCoal.
