This afternoon, Republicans in the NC General Assembly officially pushed through new congressional maps that will help Republican politicians gain power and take away yours. I even went on Chris Hayes’ show on MSNBC last night to share nationwide the news about this abuse of our representative democracy.

This new map disenfranchises Black voters in eastern NC to give Republicans another seat in Congress, just like Donald Trump wanted.

John, the past three Republican-led General Assemblies have drawn new congressional maps, each more in their favor than the last, and North Carolinians have voted under different maps in five of the past six elections. This isn’t how it’s supposed to work, but Republican legislators keep trying to take every ounce of power they can away from the voters for themselves.

As it is, our current congressional map is rated “F” for partisanship by the Princeton Gerrymandering Project. It already gives Republicans a huge, unfair advantage at the congressional level. This new map is even worse.

Our state constitution prevents me from vetoing these maps, but I am not giving up. We have to fight back in the midterm elections and oust the legislators who are enacting this corrupt power grab. If you’re with me, I’m asking you to donate anything you can afford right away. [[link removed]]
