Governor Kelly Appoints Patrick Henderson to Fill District Court Position in the 1st Judicial District
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly today appointed Patrick Henderson of Atchison to a judgeship position in the 1st Judicial District. The position was created through the retirement of Judge Dan Wiley.
“Patrick Henderson brings diverse legal experiences and wide-ranging expertise to the bench,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “I am confident that his commitment to public service will make him a strong addition to the 1st Judicial District.”
Henderson is a solo practitioner at Henderson Law Office. He also serves as the Atchison County counselor, municipal judge for the City of Atchison, and city attorney for the City of Effingham. He is a board member and treasurer of the Atchison Community Health Clinic and is a member of the Atchison County and Kansas Bar Associations.
“I am truly humbled by this appointment,” said Patrick Henderson. “It has been my privilege to serve this community in many roles, and I am grateful for the chance to continue that service on the bench.”
District Court Judges in the 1st Judicial District are appointed by the governor and selected from nominees chosen by a district nominating commission. Judges in nominating commission districts are subject to retention elections every four years.
The other nominees selected by the district nominating commission were Christopher Lyon and James Floyd.
