Hi, John,
This last month of electoral work has been a rollercoaster ride and now we are only days away from the primary runoff election in Texas, where we can help power Green New Deal champion Mike Siegel to victory. His experience as a civil-rights attorney and public school teacher inspired him to run for office and we need that kind of leadership in Congress.
Join us tonight at 7pm EDT to chat with Mike Siegel, enjoy music from Austin band Nané, and help us contact voters to spread the word about Mike’s vision to transform Texas. Click here to register.
Right now, Texas is at the crossroads of so many intersecting crises. Oil and gas extraction are fueling ever-increasing climate disasters. Racist policing and a broken immigration system threaten Black and immigrant Texans everyday. And with COVID spiking across the state, hundreds of thousands are out of work and hospitals are struggling to stay afloat.
Texas needs leaders who believe a better world is possible and have the bold vision to get us there. Mike Siegel is one of those leaders. He’s built a powerful multiracial coalition across rural and urban communities on an unapologetically progressive platform. He’s earned the endorsement of Bernie Sanders, Dolores Huerta, and the Texas AFL-CIO, the largest union in the state. And in the last few weeks, he has marched in the streets with his family in support of Black lives.
Mike’s victory will prove that the Green New Deal vision can win anywhere, which is why I need you to join me in making calls to Texas voters. Person-to-person conversations are the most effective way to reach minds and hearts, but to keep everyone safe amid a pandemic, we can’t risk the close, door-to-door talks we’re used to. Signing up for a phone bank is the best way to have these important, meaningful conversations.
It’s easy to get started—and we make it fun, too! So fun that hundreds of people have returned to phone bank multiple times. When you sign up to make calls this week, you’ll be able to join fellow Sunrisers for kinship and work that will make a major impact in next week’s election. Click here to sign up for tonight’s phone bank, and consider picking up another shift on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday.
Mike Siegel has served the people for over 20 years. He knows he’s accountable to the workers and families of his community—not corporate fossil fuel interests. With Sunrise’s help, he was able to secure a huge lead in the primary election in March. If we can focus our energy these next few days and help him emerge from this runoff victorious, he’ll face off against Republican incumbent Michael McCaul, who invests more money in fossil fuels than anyone else in Congress.
This is the moment for Texas. Let's do this.
See you tonight,
Ezra, Sunrise
