Hi,

Last month, Mississippians historically came together to retire the confederate battle emblem on the state flag after 126 years. Now the conversation is turning to what to do about confederate statues in the U.S. Capitol. Mississippi is the only state to be represented by not one, but TWO confederate figures.

Like Mike has said before, there are plenty of other iconic Mississippians we can replace these divisive statues with – his pick is to replace JZ George with Father of the Blues, BB King, while your top picks according to our recent poll are Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Elvis Presley.

Cindy Hyde-Smith, on the other hand, has a long-standing history of glorifying confederate monuments and leaders. In fact, Hyde-Smith is in charge of the very Senate subcommittee that could act to remove confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol.

Of course, Hyde-Smith is refusing to show ANY leadership in removing confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol, claiming, “How to best depict the history of our nation is always up for debate, but it is not the role of Congress to dictate to states which statues should be placed in the Capitol.”

Mike Espy isn’t afraid to be a leader on this issue. Mike knows that the right thing to do is replace these hurtful, hateful statues with monuments to Mississippians we can all be proud of. If he were in the Senate right now, Mike would do whatever he can to replace Mississippi’s confederate statues.

If that’s the kind of leader you want representing you in the U.S. Senate, pitch in $10 or more to our people-powered campaign to help elect Mike this November:
