Join the movement to make Big Tobacco pay!
|
Dear Friend,
When I attended my first global tobacco treaty talks in India back in 2016, the idea of making the tobacco industry pay for damaging the health of millions of people and for polluting the environment seemed impossible.
Yet less than a decade later, these demands have become central to the treaty negotiations.1 This shift is a testament to the power of our long-term organizing to challenge corporate abuse and weaken Big Tobacco’s grip over life-saving policies.
This work is not only about public health. It's also about challenging corporate power as a whole. The tobacco industry wrote the playbook — starting in the 1950s — on how to bend governments to its will. Today, from Big Tech to Big Polluters, corporations are taking over our governments and public spaces that should be run by and for the people. The corporate-backed Trump regime is just one manifestation of what this looks like.
So when we're taking on Big Tobacco's influence at the global tobacco treaty, we're not just challenging one industry. We're challenging the very premise that corporations should have any say about our freedom to breathe clean air, take care of our families, and protect this planet we call home.
That's why, next month, we'll be attending the global tobacco treaty talks again, this time in Geneva. We're showing up to demand that governments protect their people and prevent the tobacco industry from exploiting them with its deadly products — whether that’s a teenager addicted to flavored vapes or communities in the Global South flooded with cheap cigarettes. But we need your support to make the biggest impact possible.
For years, we and our allies have organized to hold the tobacco industry accountable for its long history of harm to people and the planet.2 Together, we successfully secured the world's first corporate accountability treaty that keeps this deadly industry out of public health policy. And now, we're advancing measures to make them pay.
You can be a part of this growing movement for justice by signing our petition to make Big Tobacco pay. So will you join us?

Corporate Accountability stops transnational corporations from devastating democracy, trampling human rights, and destroying our planet. We are building a world rooted in justice where corporations answer to people, not the other way around -- a world where every person has access to clean water, healthy food, a safe place to live, and the opportunity to reach their full human potential.
