Friend — Earlier this year the Trump administration cut $500 million in funding from the Emergency Food Assistance Program. Enough to equal 94 million pounds of food.
Now food banks across the country are scrambling to fill the gap and provide food to the millions of low-income families who rely on them to put food on the table every week.
This is just one of countless stories detailing the devastating consequences of Trump’s long list of cuts to federal programs.
First, he let DOGE go around illegally slashing anything they saw fit, from cancer research to the Department of Education to USAID to NPR and PBS. They defunded crucial programs that provide meals to seniors, promote clean air and drinking water, and help working-class kids go to college.
Then Republicans in Congress joined in by cutting almost $1 trillion from Medicaid, kicking millions off their healthcare plans, and cutting billions more from food assistance programs and clean energy projects.
And the most despicable part? They carried out all of these cuts while still finding trillions of dollars for tax cuts for themselves and their billionaire buddies.
The Republican agenda is straightforward: Take from the poor, give to the rich.
That’s why it’s so important that Democrats hold the line on opposing Trump and Republicans’ health care cuts. That’s why Ed Markey has voted NO on this disastrous budget 11 times now.
Trump’s actions have consequences, and the American people are already feeling the effects of his billionaire-backed agenda. We must offer our own vision for the future, where our budgets reflect our values and every American can afford the healthcare, housing, food, and quality education they deserve.
