In 2013, the Supreme Court eliminated federal pre-clearance of voting laws in states with histories of racially discriminatory voting laws. This led to the flood of voting rights attacks we have railed against for over a decade. Examples include voter roll purges, prohibitive Voter ID laws, and the closing of polling locations.
Now the Supreme Court could gut the provision of the Voting Rights Act that prohibits discriminatory maps so MAGA extremists can dilute the voting power of minorities and weaken Black political power.
This is a code red for the future of voting rights and for the future of America as a multi-racial democracy.
