Did you hear about the country where a man who attempted a coup d’etat is now demanding $230,000,000 from his fellow citizens even though he managed
to escape accountability?

The country is called the United States of America.

For anyone who missed this breaking news Tuesday — as first reported in The New York Times — Donald Trump says he should get $230 million from the federal government
because he was “damaged very greatly” by getting away with an attempted coup.

The good news is that this ludicrous payout would have to be approved by someone
high up in the federal government.

The bad news is that the someone would likely be Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who was Trump’s criminal
defense lawyer before Trump installed him in his current position.

Or maybe Stanley Woodward Jr., another high-ranking Justice Department official
who represented Walt Nauta, Trump’s co-defendant in the classified documents
case, and other Trump allies, including FBI Director Kash Patel.

Or maybe even Trump himself, who admitted as much after the story broke: “I’m
the one that makes the decision and that decision would have to go across my
desk and it’s awfully strange to make a decision where I’m paying myself.” You
don’t say.
