GOP Rep. Scott Perry recently shared some unfiltered thoughts about Democrats who served in the military. 

Among the worst of his remarks is that Democrats “hate the military” and Democratic servicemembers only serve to “get the credential” so that they can run for political office.

Strong words coming from a man who played a central role trying to keep Donald Trump in power after he had lost in 2020.

I enlisted in the military because I felt a deep call to duty. I knew I had something to offer—and after completing basic training, I worked as an Army JAG officer, serving as a defense lawyer for service members who needed someone in their corner.

Small-minded people like Scott Perry won’t deter me from sharing my story and being proud of my service and the values I fight for every day. 

I can say without a doubt that there isn’t a single veteran or active servicemember who puts on the uniform and serves purely for political clout. Both Republican and Democrat. This is a despicable insult to every veteran. Rep. Perry owes veterans everywhere—regardless of political affiliation—an apology for his ignorant comments.

I believe that service is about putting country over self, and over political party. It’s about standing up for something greater than ourselves. 

The way that we defeat the toxic and divisive MAGA movement that treats Americans who don’t agree with them as enemies starts by all of us standing up and standing tall for our values: freedom, justice, and democracy—for all Americans, not just some.

I am running for Congress to take this fight to Washington, D.C. and usher in a new generation of leadership at a pivotal time for our country. Can I count on your support to help me get there?
