For months now, Trump’s administration has been carrying out illegal strikes on boats in the Caribbean under the flimsy pretense that these boats were trafficking drugs into America.

According to Axios: “The U.S. military has killed at least 32 people in seven strikes off the coast of Venezuela without telling Congress or the American people who was killed, or on what evidence.”

Let’s be clear: These strikes are war crimes.

If someone is attempting to smuggle drugs into the country, they should be arrested, given due process, and made to face the legal consequences. Not assassinated at sea by drone strikes in a despicable act of war-mongering. But we’ll never know if the people on these boats are actually “drug traffickers” or merely unsuspecting fishermen.

And there’s a reason that the Trump administration is getting so bold in their violations of international law. These strikes are a clear test to see how far Trump can go in intimidating Venezuela and threatening violent US military intervention.

We learned through a bombshell report from the New York Times just weeks ago that top Trump aides are pushing a regime change plan in which the US forcibly removes Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Now we are seeing the first steps of such a plan come together before our eyes:


Nicomedes — Regime change in Venezuela is a disaster waiting to happen, both for the people of Venezuela and for the United States.

We can’t afford to get into any more destructive, costly wars. We should have learned our lesson long ago about using our military might to intervene in other country’s affairs against their will.

That’s why we are asking you today to join Ilhan Omar in sending a simple message to Trump: No War in Venezuela.

Add your name to Ilhan’s petition today opposing any and all military escalations in Venezuela and calling for accountability for Trump’s illegal airstrikes and provocations. We must remind Trump that a vast majority of Americans oppose needless wars and destabilizing regime change.
