Hi Friend,
In 2019, I got the kind of news every woman dreads.
During a routine check-up, my doctor found a small lump in my breast. Thankfully, it was caught early. After a few months of treatment, surgery, and a lot of prayer, I’m cancer-free.
I know how fortunate I am. I had access to quality care, the time to make that appointment, and the insurance to cover it. But too many women in our community don’t have that same privilege, and that’s why Mickell is fighting for better access to healthcare for everyone.
I sat with Mickell and told him the news, and he held my hand and said something I’ll never forget:
“ Thank God you caught it early. ”
That's what we hope for everyone who would experience this. That’s why he’s so passionate about expanding healthcare access right where people live by opening more neighborhood clinics, investing in prevention, and making sure no one has to wait until it’s too late to get care. Because public health is public safety, and every family in Shelby County deserves that peace of mind.
Today, I’m grateful — grateful to be here for my three daughters, and for every mother, sister, and daughter who needs a system that works as well for them as it did for me.
