Dear XX,
Yesterday, more than 50 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents violently raided a stretch of Canal Street that has long been synonymous with street vendors. It was a cruel show of force—replete with military-style vehicles, masked agents and riot gear—to target the street vendors who have long worked peacefully in the area. This unprecedented public sweep makes clear that the Trump administration is making good on its promise to attack our immigrant neighbors and our City, as part of its escalating national crackdown.
We held an emergency press conference with our local elected leaders, members and partners calling for an end to this violence and demand that Mayor Adams take action. We were not alone. Hundreds of New Yorkers stood up and called out these federal agents for their violent tactics and later led a large protest at 26 Federal Plaza with hundreds of others into the night. Their call to action: ICE Out of NYC.
We need your support now more than ever. Please join us in the street tonight at 6pm on Foley Square to protest this escalation on New Yorkers. If you can’t join us tonight, please consider making a donation to power our work and provide direct assistance to immigrants who have been detained to help with costs associated with reuniting with their families, legal fees, commissary and bond funds, housing support, and other basic needs.
