If Democrats are tired of being out of power, then it’s time to stop whining and start building a bench of talent in places outside of traditionally blue states.

That’s the gist of the plan we released on Monday—and I’d love your support.

We can’t just keep trying to win the same elections with the same playbook, cycle after cycle, dumping millions (or billions!) into the same tired strategies. With major redistricting challenges ahead and the Supreme Court threatening to strike down the Voting Rights Act, we have to start investing in something new—now.

John, that’s where you come in. Run for Something wants to recruit and train candidates in state and local races in places that Democrats have left behind for far too long, like Utah, Texas, Idaho, Louisiana, and Mississippi—but we urgently need the resources to do it at scale.

Look, we know how to win in tough races. We’ve flipped seats in deep-red territory and boosted turnout in the bluest corners of the map. We know what it takes to run modern campaigns, to build the infrastructure, and to create the community that helps new leaders succeed.

Bottom line: Run for Something was built for this moment.

Our plan is to expand the map ahead of the 2030 redistricting cycle and the 2032 presidential election, while still delivering the short-term wins that keep progress moving now. It’s not either/or. It’s both/and.

With your help, we’ll strengthen the bench in Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio. 

We’ll grow it in places like Utah, Nebraska, and Iowa. 

And we’ll plant the seeds for new battlegrounds in Texas, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, and Mississippi. 

These efforts open multiple new pathways to victory in 2032 and beyond—but we need the RFS community to come together to help.
