A divided panel on the Ninth Circuit, stacked with Trump appointees, just
ruled that Trump can deploy National Guard troops into Portland against
the will of local leaders and the people who live there.

Trump has been sending troops to invade cities like Portland as part of a
fear-mongering “crime crackdown” — a baseless stunt to scare communities
and score political points. A lower court judge blocked this abuse of
power, but now, Trump’s judges on the Appellate Court have stepped in to
hand him exactly what he wanted: the power to use the military to
intimidate Americans on our own streets.
One Trump judge went even further — arguing that the courts shouldn’t even
be allowed to review the President’s actions. In other words, Trump could
use the military against civilians without anyone being able to stop him.
That’s not democracy. That’s authoritarianism.
This isn’t just about Portland. It’s a blatant attempt to further corrupt
our system of checks and balances — harming people across the country —
and to curry favor with Trump in case a Supreme Court vacancy opens up.
They’re not just protecting Trump’s power. They’re auditioning for a
promotion.
Americans deserve better. And this is exactly why Demand Justice exists —
