Message from Congresswoman Miller-Meeks

Dear Fellow Iowan,
It’s Mariannette Miller-Meeks, your Congresswoman from Iowa's First District.
As the government shutdown drags on, some in Washington are speaking candidly about what’s really holding things up. It was reported that one Democrat Senator warned that lawmakers who vote for the House-passed funding bill to reopen the government could “get hammered.” Another person said, “We would have enough votes if people were not terrified of getting the guillotine.”
These comments suggest fear of political backlash, not policy disagreements, may be keeping Congress from ending the shutdown. But I want to hear from you.
Do you believe fear of political consequences is preventing lawmakers from voting to reopen the government?
Your voice matters. Let me know where you stand, and follow me on X, Facebook, and Instagram to see how I’m serving Southeast Iowa every day—because Serving You Is What We Do.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
