Washington Democrats have spent billions for “green dreams,” but not a dime left for asphalt.

Democrats Pave the Way to Nowhere
Washington’s roads and bridges are literally falling apart, but Democrats in Olympia are too busy chasing climate vanity projects to notice. Despite a $15.5 billion transportation budget passed earlier this year, only a tiny slice is actually going toward preserving the infrastructure millions of people rely on daily.
WSDOT officials are now warning of “critical failure,” as 40% of state lane miles—roughly 8,000 miles—are overdue for paving. Only 670 miles got attention. Of 100 bridges needing paint to prevent corrosion, fewer than ten were completed. Even Jay Inslee once admitted too much money went to shiny new projects instead of maintaining what we already have.
The kicker? WSDOT Secretary Julie Meredith didn’t even bother to request the $1.8 billion her own agency says is needed to keep the system from collapsing. Instead, she asked for minor budget tweaks while warning internally that “critical needs remain unfunded.”
So while Governor Bob Ferguson and Olympia Democrats funnel billions into ferries, culverts, and climate commissions, Washington drivers are left dodging potholes on bridges older than their grandparents. The state’s transportation system isn’t just in trouble—it’s officially running on fumes. Read more at Seattle Red.

Democrats Panic as Courts Admit Trump Can Deploy National Guard
Democrats hoping to paint Trump’s National Guard deployments as some kind of military coup just got another reality check from the courts. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago partially lifted a lower court’s block, allowing federal troops to remain stationed at a U.S. Army Reserve base nearby. Meanwhile, the 9th Circuit — yes, that famously liberal court — sounded surprisingly open to the Trump administration’s argument that the National Guard might be necessary to stop the chaos in Democrat-run cities like Portland.
Oregon’s lawyers tried to argue that riots, arson, and mob violence don’t qualify as a “rebellion.” The judges weren’t buying it. Two of the three panel members, both Trump appointees, pointed out that presidents have wide authority to deploy the Guard — and that there’s no evidence Trump’s use of it was improper. One even quipped that under Oregon’s logic, “not even President Lincoln” could’ve acted to preserve order.
In other words, while Democrats wring their hands about “federal overreach,” courts across the country are starting to recognize that Trump’s plan to restore order in Democrat-led disaster zones might actually be — dare we say — lawful, justified, and overdue. The question is: when will Seattle draw Trump’s attention? Read more at Fox News.

Bob Ferguson’s Climate Scheme Leaves Farmers Holding the Gas Bill
Washington quietly pulled the plug this summer on a rebate program meant to refund farmers who got stuck paying illegal carbon surcharges under the state’s so-called Climate Commitment Act. The $30 million program was supposed to help farmers recoup up to 70 cents per gallon they were overcharged thanks to the state’s chaotic cap-and-trade system. Instead, Democrats cut it from the budget — even after a near-unanimous vote to keep it going.
The Department of Ecology’s “solution”? An online map showing which gas stations might sell exempt fuel. Because apparently farmers have time to play scavenger hunt just to avoid getting gouged at the pump.
Rep. Tom Dent (R-Moses Lake) fought to keep the rebate program alive, but Gov. Bob Ferguson and Democratic budget writers simply left it out — returning $20 million to their climate slush fund instead. The same farmers who were promised exemptions are now told to figure it out themselves while the state pats itself on the back for another “climate win.”
After two years of bureaucratic bungling, lawsuits, and broken promises, one thing’s clear: Washington’s climate policy isn’t saving the planet — it’s just punishing the people who feed it. Read more at the Washington State Standard.

The University of Woke-shington
At the University of Washington, “academic freedom” now means freedom to repeat the same DEI buzzwords as everyone else—or don’t bother applying. Job seekers for positions like School Psychology or Civic Technology must submit lengthy essays professing their allegiance to “racial equity,” “positionality,” and “educational justice.” You can’t just believe in treating students equally—you have to worship at the altar of intersectionality, complete with proof of your devotion in syllabi, videos, or “social justice” lesson plans.
Meanwhile, the same professors clutching pearls over supposed federal loyalty oaths are the ones enforcing this ideological purity test on their own campus. They warn that affirming a commitment to the Constitution would “threaten free speech,” but forcing candidates to declare loyalty to DEI dogma? Totally fine.
The hypocrisy is breathtaking. UW’s faculty is now a political echo chamber producing students who think shouting down speakers—or even using violence—is an acceptable response to opposing views. The so-called “diversity statement” is really a conformity contract ensuring only one kind of thinking survives on campus.
At UW, you can teach anything you want—as long as it’s approved by the DEI committee. Welcome to higher indoctrination. Read more at Seattle Red.

Murray and Cantwell: Holding D.C. Hostage for Obamacare Handouts
The federal government could reopen today — if Washington’s Democratic Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell wanted it to. Instead, they voted against a simple continuing resolution that would’ve ended the shutdown, choosing to hold out for their party’s wish list of health-care subsidies.
In plain English: they’re keeping the government closed to protect Obamacare perks. Murray and Cantwell insist it would be “irresponsible” to fund the government without extending premium tax credits — a convenient way to disguise political brinkmanship as “compassion.”
Business groups and taxpayer advocates aren’t buying it. Americans for Prosperity blasted the senators for “putting party over people” while thousands of federal workers go unpaid and key services sit idle.
With Democrats blocking every clean funding bill, this standoff isn’t about fiscal responsibility — it’s about political leverage. Murray and Cantwell have effectively endorsed the shutdown to protect one of Washington, D.C.’s favorite sacred cows: government dependency. Read more at Seattle Red.
