I hate shutdowns. But what I hate even more is Vermonters having their health care costs double.
As the shutdown stretches on, these stakes remain the same.
Republicans know they need Democratic votes to pass a continuing resolution. But President Trump told them not to negotiate with us at all leading up to the funding expiration.
Just a few months ago, Republicans passed the Big Beautiful Bill, adding trillions to our national debt in order to give tax cuts to billionaires. And yet they won’t work with us to extend this crucial health care program we’re already paying for in order to save working families from skyrocketing prices.
We’ve heard Republicans talk openly about their worry for their constituents being hurt by these price increases. But they’re too afraid of President Trump to break with the party.
Alongside my fellow Senate Democrats, I’m in D.C. and ready to negotiate a compromise with Republicans if they’re willing to come to the table.
This is not an easy fight. But some things are worth fighting for.
