Dear Friend,
It's Joe Courtney.
We are on day 21 of the government shutdown – and day 32 since House Speaker Mike Johnson last brought the House of Representatives into session.
Congress must get back to work to reopen the government and prevent a health care cost hike for millions of Americans.
If you are being impacted by the federal government shutdown, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office for support and resources.
If the White House and Congress fail to maintain Affordable Care Act tax credits, premiums for Americans who enroll in health plans through the exchange will more than double.
This week, Connecticut residents are receiving notices in the mail from Access Health CT of premium increases for 2026. If you have received a notice of a premium increase, I encourage you to share it so the White House and Congress can see what’s at stake.
Share you notice at courtney.house.gov/CT02HealthCareStories.
During my recent telephone town hall, one caller, Kristine from Coventry shared that if Congress does not act, her health care costs will go up to $37,200/year. That is totally unaffordable for working and middle class Americans.
Access Health CT estimates that at least 30% of current enrollees would go uninsured next year because they can’t afford these costs.
The high cost of health care is the number one drain on Americans' budgets. Congress can’t kick this issue down the road any further.
Thank you for taking some time to read my update.
Again, if my office can be of any assistance during the government shutdown, do not hesitate to call us at (860) 886-0139. For answers to frequently asked questions about the government shutdown, click here.
Sincerely,
Joe Courtney
Member of Congress
