Friend,
This is Craig Brown, the co-founder of Common Dreams.
I’ve worked in and around politics for a long time. I marched against the Vietnam War as a teenager. I worked for Ralph Nader. I worked on Capitol Hill and managed successful congressional campaigns. And since 1997, I’ve led Common Dreams, which I launched with my late wife, Lina Newhouser.
But in all those years, I’ve never seen anything quite like No King’s Day.
Over 7 million people rallied across the country, in big cities like Chicago, Houston, and New York, as well as in thousands of small towns across red and blue America. We stood up to Trump’s masked army of ICE thugs and said with one voice: In America, there are no kings.
This could go down in history as an essential turning point in the fight against authoritarianism. But that will only happen if this movement keeps growing every day, every week, every month going forward — and that will require independent media willing and able to hold the Trump regime to account.
Like every authoritarian before him, Trump is working to co-opt or destroy any dissenting news outlets so he can control what the people see and hear. Sadly, corporate news outlets — one after another — are bending the knee.
That’s why Common Dreams is so indispensable in this moment. Trump will never, ever control or intimidate Common Dreams, and we will never sacrifice the core values that define our community: social justice, universal human rights, equality, and peace.
But here’s the key point I want to get across to our readers: Our model only works with your financial support.
Today, we're launching our Fall Campaign fundraising drive and need to raise $100,000 by midnight on October 31. Will you donate to help power the nonprofit, independent journalism of Common Dreams? ([link removed])
Are we under threat? You bet we are. But with your backing for our work and everything else you do in the world to make it a better place, we will emerge from these difficult times better and stronger than ever.

PS: One of the very best ways to support Common Dreams is to become a monthly donor. By giving monthly, you’ll provide the ongoing support we need to plan for the future — and you’ll also receive far fewer fundraising emails. If you believe in this mission, become a monthly donor today. ([link removed])
