Dear John,

Anti-Muslim hate is escalating once again, this time from Laura Loomer, a far-right political agitator who has described herself as "pro-white nationalist" and a "proud Islamophobe." This is a calculated and a deliberate attack to divide Americans and endanger our communities.

Her reason? The simple act of civic engagement. We recently hosted a U.S. Senate debate in Michigan to give Muslim voters the chance to hear directly from their candidates. Yet this simple act of democracy has become grounds for attack, a growing pattern of hate targeting organizations like ours for simply doing our jobs.

This is not the first time, and it will not be the last. Across the country, Muslim organizations that work to strengthen democracy who work to uplift Muslim voices are being targeted by far-right extremists. Their goal is clear, to silence us, to intimidate us, and to push us out of public life. 

To Laura Loomer, empowering voters is a threat. To us, it’s our mission.

Let’s be perfectly clear about what she is attacking:
• She is attacking work to mobilize Muslim voters.
• She is attacking efforts to educate communities about candidates.
• She is attacking the fundamental American right of every citizen to participate in our democracy.

But we have a message for her and anyone who seeks to marginalize Muslim voices: We will not be silenced.

Organizations like ours do this work every single day, registering voters, educating communities, and empowering participation, because an engaged Muslim electorate is essential to our democracy. We are proud of this mission, and we will CONTINUE this work, no matter what.
