Our new report, The Price of Retreat, is a warning to global leaders. Unless the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria meets its funding target next month, the world could face the deadliest malaria resurgence on record, costing lives, holding back African economies and disrupting global trade.
Our mission at Malaria No More UK is to support and inspire leadership and financing to end malaria in a generation, and we are determined to do this. We are currently at a pivotal moment in global health history, marked by significant shifts in power and funding cuts. This report forms a central part of our ongoing efforts to fight malaria at the highest level.
These findings, delivered in partnership with the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, are clear: investing in malaria is not just a health decision, it fuels growth, protects trade, and secures a stronger, safer and more prosperous world for all.
Underfund the malaria fight and risk triggering the biggest malaria resurgence on record, undermining economic potential and overarching global growth. This report shows that if malaria prevention collapses Africa could lose $83 billion from its economy by 2030. On the other hand, if we stay on track to end malaria it could provide a $230 billion boost.
