We are currently watching the Trump Administration double and triple down on family separation. A horrifying and incredibly traumatic experience for anyone, but even more so for children.
If someone you know was detained or deported, would their family know what to do?
Without a family preparedness plan, their kids could end up in foster care, or their loved ones could struggle to access important documents or money.
That's why, we are urging you to plan and be prepared. Urge your friends, neighbors and community members to make a plan before anything happens, and not leave these important decisions up to strangers. On our website there is a guide that can help. Their plan should include:
-
Learning what their rights are
-
Designating a trusted guardian for their children in their absence
-
Writing down and memorizing their emergency contacts
-
Obtaining valid travel documents
-
Making sure their family can access money and essentials
